Guerlain September Review

Guerlain Review

I was recently invited to a Beauty Class with Maxime Poulin, Guerlain's international beauty artist. Not only did Maxime introduce us to some of the latest products from Guerlain's incredible skin care and makeup line, but he also brought me back to beauty school. I could listen to Maxime talk for hours about application and how less is more. I found a true appreciation for what I do as an artist after I left the class because of Maxime's inspiring words. This class made me take a step back and really focus more on my clients personal needs and face shapes rather than following the latest contour and highlight trends on Instagram. I have to agree, less IS more when using the right products...

In this blog post I will go through 4 of the products, the benefits of them, and what I learnt about them. I will have the products linked in the images below if you would like to learn more about them. Let's get started!!

Primer

Blurring Active Base

I have never used such a luxurious primer. I tend to only use small amounts of primer before I apply my foundation over the nose, forehead and cheek area. These are my problem areas where oil builds up and pore size is enlarged. This primer blurs all imperfections, I swear my pores minimized after applying this magical base within seconds. It is a mattifying primer and feels like silk. It is scented, as are most Guerlain products are, so I was a little reluctant to try it because of my sensitive/reactive skin, but after a quick patch test on my wrist I applied it to my face and it was not irritated at all. The scent is reminiscent of a fragrance my mother used to wear with notes of Violet and Rose.

Benefits: Long wearing. Mattifying. Fragrant. Anti-Pollution effect.

Cost: $52 CAD

Glow + Contour

Mét éorites Baby Glow Touch is a three in one product. This is the perfect cream product for a natural sunkissed glow. The glow portion of the stick is my favourite. The shimmer is so finely milled that it applies so smoothly and effortlessly. It creates that perfect glow without looking like a glitter queen. The blush colour is an all around perfect universal pink tone, it brings life to the cheeks and a little goes a long way. Maxine demonstrated the contour application in the cheek bone area from the ear to the outer quarter of the eye, for a simple and bronzed effect.

Benefits: Soft Focus results. Perfect mix of glow and contour. Compact Packaging.

Price: $48 CAD

Intense Liquid Matte

Exciting Pink

If there was any product I could directly relate to Guerlain, it would be Lipstick. They got it right with this product. I am not one for Liquid Lipstick or Matte formulations, but this is something different. The intensity of the colour is pigmented just the right amount. It is going to stain the lips, but that is what we want from an intense liquid lip isn't it? The scent is a reflection of the Guerlain brand just like the rest of the products-sophisticated and floral. And the packaging...Well it speaks for itself.

Benefits: Lons lasting lipstick. Matte Finish. Medium Pigmented. Fab Packaging.

Price: $40 CAD

TERRACOTTA

BRONZER

If you are reading this and you don't own a Terracotta bronzer, you need one...NOW. This life changing bronzer is one of a kind. The product/bronzer line has been out for years. If you have ever come across a Guerlain counter or Gondola in Sephora you will be familiar with this product, there is a reason it has been around for so long. The bronxer is so finely milled and applies like butter in powder form. Terracotta come in different mixes, shades and shapes, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Sun Trio Bronzing Contour Palette

The darkest tone (top right) belongs in the desired deeper contoured areas of the face. The mid tone (bottom) can be applied as an all over bronzer for a sun-kissed look. The light tone (top left) is a natural highlight with the lightest amount …

BRUSHES

Did you say brushes? There is something about designer brushes that make me feel luxurious. I am not entirely sure if the brushes are real or synthetic, but they feel INCREDIBLE and release alot of the product on to the skin.

Thank you to the PR team at Guerlain and Maxime Poulin for having me. I am truly grateful to have been invited to this lovely class and I look forward to seeing you again soon! XO

Quick Vacation Makeup

Vacation Glam

I just recently returned from a quick weekend getaway to Florida. I was visiting Florida for 5 days so I only really packed the necessities in my makeup bag. That being said, I thought it would be appropriate to share my honest opinion on the products I used while there.

I started with an eye corrector/primer for my under eye area. Normally, I do eye makeup first but I felt that my skin needed to absorb the products a little longer that normal because of the time spent soaking up the sun. The Dior Fix It Primer/Concealer is a 2 in 1 product that primes the under eye area while correcting darkness. It is a super smooth product, that doesn't set into any fine lines and has a powder like finish. Great for travel and touchups.

I always travel with a slightly deeper tone of foundation and concealer to match my skin when I am tan. The Charlotte Tilbury Retoucher is perfect for the under eye area while on vacay. It is  extremely hydrating and pretty pigmented for the under eye area... I also carry it in my hand bag for touchups.

The Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation, in my opinion, is the best every day silicone based foundation I have ever used! It binds to the skin well and leaves a beautiful glowly finish. It is also buildable and has SPF 15, which is perfect for travel.

For some natural bronzing, I use the Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel cream bronzer. Sometimes my skin doesn't co-operate as well as I would like it to on vacation and I end up with an un even tan on my forehead area. This cream bronzer evens everything out with such grace that it almost looks like I used a quick pass of airbrush bronzer across my face. This product can be used all year round, and it lasts FOREVER- I highly recommend it!

Shadow...

The best neutral palette for travel. It's like a snack size of the original Naked Palette's from Urban Decay. Perfectly Neutral for all skin tones.

Cream Shadow

Perfect for a quick eye look. I travel with at least one cream shadow in my makeup bag.

H&M ($7.99 CAN)

Liner

Be a smart packer and save your mini sample size products for travel. I got the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner complimentary with my points from Sephora

Mascara

The It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara is my new fav! One coat with this product and your lashes are voluminous and lengthened. It's almost like the brush was made to hug your lashes. It is on the more expensive scale of mascara products but SOOOOO worth the cost ($33.00 CAD).

The Brow Wiz by Anastasia Beverly Hills has to be my favourite brow product. It's slim retractable water-resistant pencil is perfect for filling in sparseness in the brow. Mine seem sparse because they lighten in the sun, so I find the Brow Wiz defines my brows perfectly without looking too over done. ($21 CAD)

Bronze & Glow

I came across this beautiful, natural finish bronze and glow palette by Urban Decay at a PR event for L'Oreal Cosmetics. On one side there are creamy products, and on the other there are powders. Both are finely milled and pleasant for blending with either a sponger, brushes, or simply with your finger tips. The actual packaging is quite heavy, so I am not entirely sure if it is the best palette for travel, but something to consider because it can be used for not only face contour and highlight, but also for a complete eye look ($66 CAD).

Fragrance

Coconut + Vanilla

Nothing like Tom Ford Soleil Blanc as a finishing touch to the vacation glam. I love Tom Ford fragrance, because they're made with essential oils. If you have sensitive skin, or allergies, any regular fragrance may cause a bit of a reaction. Try essential oil based fragrances and I promise you'll never change it again. Upscale, designer fragrance that is worth every penny ($362 CAD).

Moisturize

The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is my all time favourite moisturizer. It has such finely milled shimmer in it that gives you a complete glow all over the skin. I especially love using it on my legs when I have a tan and leaves you smelling fresh and coconutty! (CAD $25 for 75mL)
